Chris Nelson, an American artist, was raised in the outdoor environment of Colorado. Four years after receiving his BFA from Colorado State University, he moved to Massachusetts where his work went from sculptural to site-specific installations. Seven years later, Nelson still works in a direct and minimal way. Gravitating to using light, shadow, movement, and space, his work usually has a quiet, meditative quality. Often the essence of nature is expressed through a synthetic means while staying temporal. Nelson has exhibited widely, including the 55 Mercer Gallery, NY, University of Massachusetts, Springfield College, MA, Holyoke Community College, MA, Broward Community College, FL, Holter Museum of Art, MT and The Fort Collins Museum of Contemporary Art, CO. He has also received several awards including a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and two Full Fellowships to the Vermont Studio Center. Nelson also has worked as an educator, gallery director and curator.
